Abstract:

You’re aware that visuals are more effective than text, and you’d like to incorporate them in your communications, but how? Show, Don’t Tell will demonstrate just how easy creating visuals is, and how to incorporate them in your day-to-day communications.

Extended Abstract:

Visuals are universally a more effective method of communication. In fact, TechSmith conducted an international original research project and found people not only prefer visuals, but they process visual information and complete tasks faster and more accurately when given visual instruction. So how do we take advantage of this knowledge? How do we create visuals to incorporate in our online learning courses?

In Show, Don’t Tell, TechSmith’s Learning and Development Specialist, Ryan Eash will give a 30-minute presentation on how to easily create visuals and incorporate them effectively into your digital classroom. From creating visuals for instruction to using video to provide feedback, Ryan Eash will highlight proven alternatives to basic written communication.

In this uniquely structured Educate and Reflect session, attendees will receive individualized instruction. Following the 30-minute presentation, Eash will encourage attendees to write down how they would like to include visuals in their online learning programs, or areas they would like help incorporating visuals. Then during the interactive portion each attendee will have an opportunity to share in a popcorn style discussion, gaining feedback from Eash as well as other attendees.

Attendees will:

1. Learn how to create effective visuals that help students retain information

2. Navigate through easy-to-use editing tools that help with content creation

3. Discuss what visual types are most effective for which communication goals
