Content is King! Explore the Challenges and Opportunities Associated with Learning Media, and How to Avoid Common Pitfalls.

Abstract:

The decisions surrounding media for online learning usually boil down to three things: cost, capability, and timeline. Explore the creation and growth of an in-house creative instructional design team, as well as strategic partnerships within and outside your organization.

Extended Abstract:

As institutions ramp up their online learning efforts, the need for quality, cost-effective, and pedagogically-appropriate media grows with them. Throughout the course development process, there is a need to balance (1) the cost of online media, (2) the capability and growth of your in-house instructional design team, and (3) deadlines. At the same time, the media needs to be good content - the learning effectiveness and student experience should be paramount, but are often sacrificed under pressure!

This workshop will explore the different options available for online media, through the lens of the oldest U.S. music conservatory as it forges into the online realm.
