The year is 1845. Plantation owners and abolitionists battle for control of slavery laws in the United States. Barnard College’s critically acclaimed Reacting to the Past engages students through elaborate gameplay. Through this discovery session, explore online learning strategies applied to a blended class using the Reacting framework.

Extended Abstract: 

The year is 1845. Wealthy plantation owners and impassioned abolitionists battle to gain the allegiance of independent players. Will slavery be abolished? Will the angry mob kidnap Sojourner Truth? Barnard College’s critically acclaimed pedagogy Reacting to the Past (RTTP) engages face-to-face students through elaborate role-playing experiential learning using a variety of published games focused on historical events. Through this discovery session, examine online learning strategies applied to a blended Interpersonal Communication college class using RTTP gameplay and explore future options for online engagement.
