Abstract:

Utilizing research-based design and grounded in our Three Cs framework: Create, Collaborate, and Celebrate, the Digital Transformation Initiative provided four programs for educators to work in cross-institutional teams to collaborate cohort-style with institutions across the state. This session will describe each program, key takeaways, and the importance of community throughout.

Extended Abstract:

Based on extensive research involving our digital learning ecosystem, our Digital Learning Division found that quality professional development opportunities and community building were important aspects for moving Digital Learning forward in the state of Texas. To meet these needs, the DDL provided four distinct programs for cross-institutional teams using a cohort-based model in the Summer and Fall of 2022.

Programs and Deliverables focused on:

  • Evidence-Based Teaching and Student-Centered Instruction
    • Deliverable: Course redesign plan with scaling, follow-up reporting based on measurement framework
  • Managing Learning Continuity
    • Deliverable: Learning continuity plan
  • Measuring Digital Learning
    • Deliverable: Blueprint for scaling the integration of continuous improvement processes into teaching and learning, follow-up reporting based on measurement framework
  • Teaching and Designing an Online Course
    • Deliverable: Course design/redesign plan

Additional general deliverables also included:

  • Participation in an organization-sponsored event
  • Participation in digital learning webinar series
  • Video testimonials

In addition to describing each program’s goals and structure, we will also describe our Framework of Cs: Create, Collaborate, and Celebrate and how each component supported the initiative, including activities beyond the conclusion of the program sessions. To scale project outcomes, institutional teams created materials that are shared as Open Education Resources (OER) to help others start initiatives of their own. During the session, participants of the Digital Transformation Initiative will drop in to share their implementation and execution experiences as part of a “program participants’ insights” segment of the presentation.

Levels of Participation:

This session will provide an interactive forum for conversation regarding each of the four programs, key takeaways, and the importance of building community throughout the duration of the programs and beyond. Attendees will participate in a discussion regarding program design and execution to enable institutional leaders to carry out similar projects at their own institutions using materials already developed.

Session Goals:

Attendees will learn about the details of each program, from design to execution, as well as have the opportunity to begin thinking about how the programs may fit for them. Using materials already developed by previous program participants, attendees will have the opportunity to brainstorm ideas to expand the work at their own institutions.
