As technology evolves the way we communicate, virtual reality presents new and exciting opportunities to re-invision how we collaborate and work. With hybrid work common in the workplace and in learning, it’s an optimal time to harness this technology to foster connections and expand the possibilities of learning.
Hybrid work today requires re-envisioning approaches to connect to be both flexible and also effective. We have implemented a VR Club within our Instructional Design and New Media Team that includes colleagues who are hybrid and fully remote. Implementing this VR Club (using the Meta Oculus 2 headsets) has developed relationships and team building across our teams, no matter an individual’s work location. We hold weekly experiences and review various VR apps related to (i) teaching, learning and design (ii) work, collaboration and innovation and (iii) team building and health culture. This unique approach to explore teaching and learning within VR has greatly increased the rapport and inter-team connections as we continue to strive for excellence in everything that we do.
