Extended Abstract:

Technology has evolved at light speed in the Digital Age – so fast, in fact, that the Digital Age has already given way to the Mobile Age!  Analog, text-heavy courses are so 2010.  It’s time to take the leap and start creating your own content!

Video can provide a high-impact, low-cost point of entry for instructors looking to create meaningful content.  Instructor-created videos make use of a technology that is familiar to the audience, enhance the student connection with an instructor, and allow people to access information on their terms.  The prospect of creating your own videos may seem daunting but the process can actually be quite simple.  In this session, you will discover the practical advantages of video in the classroom, learn how you can get started with gear you probably already have on hand, and gain insight on getting the most out of your content.

This session is geared towards educators with a desire to move beyond the constraints of text-based instruction and meet students in the video-oriented world where they live but may be unsure of how to get there or are hesitant to make the leap.  The content is intended for instructors with little-to-no media experience and focuses on entry-level rationale, equipment, and practices.

Participants in this session will gain an understanding of:

  • How creating videos can benefit students in the learning process
  • No cost, low cost, and higher cost equipment options for getting started with content creation
  • Best practices for creating impactful videos
