Moveable bridges as a metaphor for the challenges and opportunities in higher education today allows for many different perspectives for online learning and academic innovation. As academic leaders who serve both as administrators and faculty in our Colleges we bring a unique vantage point to this topic and intend to share in this teaching and learning practice session. We will present on our individual experiences at our institutions from these two levels and then will share some of our joint thinking that we hope will bring out perspectives from several ideas from the attendees at our session.

Business education lends itself to many opportunities for connecting academic theory and real-world practice. From making sense of the contemporary business environment using relevant theories to connecting with business practice via case studies and executive guest speakers. We will share how we think about building bridges in many ways currently. The first common thread will include our experiences using educational technology application, Yellowdig, for discussing current events and class topics. Yellowdig can be used for on campus classes as well as online and hybrid. This multifunctionality allows for faculty to utilize the tool in multiple ways to create learning communities in their classes.
The other common theme that the presenters will share is around our work on faculty development and teaching training. This work is continuing to get more exciting and dynamic as faculty are teaching across different programs and modalities. We will share some of the ways we are working to partner with faculty to think about how their initiatives and innovations in one area (e.g., online course creation) can have impact in other areas (e.g., on campus learning). Thus, building new bridges that connect online and on campus teaching and learning innovation and faculty development.
The final perspective of this session will be around organizing for ongoing innovation. Extending the metaphor of bridges to discussions of creating mindsets for faculty and teaching and learning leaders towards bridge building as an ongoing capacity of individual faculty, schools, and Universities. This mindset will position institutions to be agile and innovative as the complexity of higher education increases.
