During this session you will get to make and share a short audio session using a variety of audio capture techniques and tools.
Our college has been embracing Open Education Resource initiatives for some time. Like most Higher Education institutions, the only way to get buy in on these initiatives is to have faculty on board. We have been successful in gaining champions in faculty members through a laid back drop in conversation where we offer free awesome donuts. It is a casual drop in session offered during common hours when no classes or other events are scheduled.
During these sessions we discuss a variety of topics: some are aspirational and strategic, while others are more faculty specific and local. These bi-weekly conversations bring in a wide range of influencers - librarians, instructional designers, staff, and faculty members of all sorts.
Although these conversations ware diverse and wide, we have managed to come away with several faculty members who either transformed their courses or shifted their thinking about how they viewed their own praxis.
Of these key faculty members, one of the most intriguing is a tenured music faculty member who sees a lot of value in opening her teaching and students to other communities.
During our Innovation Lab session, she will discuss her approach to integrating Open Music Theory into her classes. She will also talk about how she has helped developed an open music remix space and archive.
Participants will have the following takeaways:
-
Potential educational experience of remixing other students music
-
Creating open networks for students to collaborate with other musicians
-
Get students to consider the intellectual property of their work and how they want to manage it
