Colleges and Universities are continually looking at ways to help students afford to attend college while keeping them engaged and enrolled in school. During Fall 2018, BNED LoudCloud launched a grant program to provide faculty a starting point in designing their courses using resources and assessments that are affordable to students and that increase their engagement with the learning materials. Through these courses, faculty can customize the student’s learning path to increase their skills for the workforce. Join us to find out how one faculty member has customized her course and how she is using it during the spring semester.
At a college within KCTCS (Kentucky Community and Technical College System), a faculty member was awarded the grant and has customized the course for students during the spring semester. In this session, you will hear about how the grant has helped to allow the faculty member to determine new and innovative ways to implement EdTech into her course, while discussing any challenges, excitements, and necessary changes to fit her course design. She will also discuss how the students have accepted this change and how this has impacted their learning and skill development during the semester.
Will use various techniques like Think/Pair/Share to target the following questions for discussion:
- What are the challenges out there for faculty who want to use technology for their course?
- What successes to you expect to see with the increased engagement with the other students in the class and with the course materials?
- Are there areas of improvement that implementing a course that is aligned to skills and learning objectives could impact?
- How is your course curriculum impacting the local workforce, and how can this be enhanced when building a course?
- Will engagement increase awareness of the types of skills that are needed in the field?
Using a scenario, each team will determine what the initiative should be, how will EdTech help in this initiative, what customizations would you want to do to the course to fit your school’s needs, how will this impact student success, will you include the local workforce and how will reducing student cost for course materials help with building the workforce?
