With increasing college closings and employers simultaneously reporting a lack of skills from advanced degree students comes opportunity to bridge the gap between higher education and rapidly changing workforce demands. This session examines stackable digital credentialing as the future-proofing solution for sustainability that inextricably serves both spheres of interest.

Extended Abstract: 

At a time where college closings and mergers are on the rise and employers simultaneously reporting a lack of skills from advanced degree students comes opportunity to bridge the gap between higher education and rapidly changing workforce demands. This session aims to examine stackable digital credentialing as the future-proofing solution for sustainability that inextricably serves both spheres of interest. The four learning goals of this session are to:

  1. Articulate new and unconventional learning pathways through digital disruption that serves existing students as well as drives potential for new and different learners
  2. Promote awareness of stackable digital credentialing as a possible solution to future-proof higher education and rapidly changing workforce demands
  3. Challenge assumptions of the student learning experience
  4. Compare and contrast the definition of students versus learners
