Abstract: 

This workshop will address the impact of Mixed Reality of VR/AR/Holograms related to immersive learning regarding types of devices, mixed reality content, student engagement, faculty PD, and workforce training. Participants and presenters will have the opportunity to engage in a forum to discuss and explore (hands-on) Mixed Reality.

 

We will be using Google Expeditions and would like those who wish to participate to download from the App Store or Google Play store.

Extended Abstract: 

This workshop will recap and update three of the topics from the OLC Summer Webinars of "EXPLORING THE IMMERSIVE LEARNING LANDSCAPE: HEADSETS, HOLOLENS, AND HIGHER ED". The workshop participants will discuss and explore (hands-on - whole body) Mixed Reality Devices, Tools, and Content including the Oculus Rift, Microsoft Hololens and Mixed Reality, SonyVR, Samsung Gear, Google Cardboard, HTC VIVE, and new tools for Augmented Reality.

1. Content and Instructional Tools to Support Your Immersive Learning Initiative 
The emergence of immersive reality devices has opened doors no one knew existed.  Flowing from other industries into the education sector, participants will discuss and explore these devices and their impact. 
Topics include:
- Applications of Content
- Instructional Tools used for Creating and Delivering Content
- Cost 

2. Immersive Learning & Student Services
The real world is not flat after all, so why constrain our student services to experience the digital world on a flat screen? Virtual and augmented reality are changing education. What started out as entertainment gaming has become a pathway to engage learners like never before. 
Topics include:
- Connecting with potential students with virtual 360 campus tours 
- Career Immersion with Mixed Reality 

3. Assessment and Evaluation of Immersive Learning Initiatives
How do you evaluate the effectiveness of your immersive learning initiative?  What benchmarks do you have in place to guide you in assessing your project?
