Extended Abstract:

Blended learning should launch students into a world where they are empowered by their growth and engaged with effective technology, building on their 21st century skills. Our hands-on professional development workshop is aimed at supporting educators looking to either begin a blended learning classroom or enhance the environment they've already begun. Participants will self-select their learning goals and have relevant learning playlists to create a space driven by student (educator) choice and voice. Kiddom will be highlighted as a free personalized learning platform option, while we will also be highlighting several other digital media resources such as Playposit, Flocabulary, Google Drive, Khan Academy, and more. The PD is designed to showcase multiple approaches to blended learning and fostering student ownership, including the four different learning models and exploring multiple educators' experience with the strategy. Kiddom's platform is free for teachers and students, so participants will have the option to also explore how Kiddom supports the classroom. Coming from the classroom myself, and still teaching a weekly class, our team is comprised of several former teachers still engaging with students on a regular basis. This PD truly models a blended learning classroom, as it is blended/online/personalized learning educators will walk away with having an action plan, innovative tools and strategies, and next steps.
