Creating engaging, interactive lessons can be a bit intimidating. For many, the idea of having to "start over" keeps them from trying. In this session, we will explore how to take existing materials and quickly turn them into active learning activities.
The time of the "sage on the stage" is over when it comes to teaching and learning. Students want to be ACTIVE in their learning and faculty want feedback on student understanding throughout the lessons. Online learning needs to be more than read and repeat… it needs to be understand and expand!
Creating engaging activities can be a bit intimidating. For many, the idea of learning a new software package or having to "start over" on how to present a lesson keeps them from trying.
Building upon existing lessons and presentation materials can be the key to starting this process.
This presentation will demonstrate strategies for taking existing PowerPoint presentations and turning them into interactive lessons with activities and testing.
Working in teams, participants will view a “flat” presentation and brainstorm how to add activities, quizzes, etc. Each group will have a technology specialist that will implement one of the suggestions within Articulate Storyline.
Participants will leave the session with ideas for ways to add active elements using an existing PowerPoint as a starting point.
The demonstration along with group discussion of creative ideas will give the group insight into emerging trends in educational technology and their potential uses. Participants will have access to the collective suggestions and a working prototype integrating many of the suggestions.
Attendees will:
- Explore ways to create engaging activities without reinventing the “wheel”.
- Apply knowledge learned to “reinvent” a sample lesson.
- Network with others on interactive activities.
- Receive access to lessons created within the session to reinforce learning.
