Repurposing old content for Engagement – A “Before & After” Showcase

Abstract:

Motivated to innovate, but short on time? We will demonstrate how to retrofit existing materials with the latest tech tools to create interactive content. Our examples will show how little time it takes to begin shifting the typical “lecture & PowerPoint” online course to one in which students learn actively.

Extended Abstract:

For those motivated to innovate but short on time, we will demonstrate how to repurpose content you already have—like videos, PDFs, & PowerPoints—to create engaging, interactive learning objects. This will be a before and after showcase that includes five examples of how content was retrofitted with the latest tech tools. For each piece, we’ll outline the general process, pedagogical pros, and time involved. Participants will leave with practical ideas for transforming passive learning materials into more powerful, engaging lessons, along with a solid understanding of how to begin. Our goal is to demonstrate how little time it takes to begin shifting the typical “lecture & PowerPoint” online course to one in which students learn actively.
