Learn how to integrate a one-to-one device program in the higher education setting. Topics include infrastructure design, leadership, faculty and staff development, and innovative teaching and learning strategies. Presentation will also include an in-depth analysis of lessons learned and best practices to drive pedagogical change.
Experts across fields including Apple Distinguished Educator, Melanie Bauer, M. Ed; Apple Education Trainer, Devon Lee; Director of Instructional Design and Technology, Matt Rota, PhD(c); Data System Administrator, Seth Thompson; and Senior Instruction Designer, Emily Myers, M.S. Ed. will share their experiences in building and maintaining a one-to-one device program at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing. Each expert will analyze their role in the program and the tools necessary for continued success. Presentation will include a look at the initial implementation strategies, associated research, and the four pillars of a successful one-to-one device program. Matt Rota will discuss the Leadership Pillar which includes insights into gaining administrative support, the development of and alignment with a strategic plan, community involvement and grant support. Melanie Bauer and Emily Myers will discuss the Innovative Teaching and Learning Pillar to include the development of faculty/instructional designer relationships and work flow. Student exemplar and assignments ideas are also addressed. Devon Lee will take an in depth look at the Faculty/Staff Development Pillar to include the development of the national iCoN Institue, a conference designed for educators, administrators and staff to transform didactic and clinical learning with active learning strategies using iPad technology. Additionally, he will discuss the continuous professional development schedule, the importance of identifying faculty champions and the creation of a faculty eTextbook creation cohort. Seth Thompson will cover the Infrastructure Pillar, an analysis of the critical components to build and maintain a one-to-one device program to include, Mobile Device Management, Apple TVs, virtual desktops, wireless network, wireless printing and collaborative classroom and work spaces. The presentation will conclude with analysis of the strengths and weaknesses associated with a one-to-one device program in the higher education setting. Additionally, presenters will share the "Lessons Learned" on the path to becoming an Apple Distinguished Program.
