Capturing, engaging, and maintaining student interest in an online environment can be challenging to say the least. In this interactive presentation, presenters will highlight experiences and provide practical tips in collaborative delivery of an online summer elective in a school of pharmacy to increase student awareness of current issues.

Presenters have presented in this format previously and will be utilizing this presentation style again as it is more engaging and avoids the dreaded boring long winded conference powerpoint presentation.

Creating an online environment that fosters meaningful student interaction with assigned material and engages students in substantive discussion can be challenging. In addition to providing a meaningful one time online course experience, is it possible to foster lifelong learning through this experience? The presenters, based on experiences, believe the resounding answer to this question is yes! All administrators, faculty, and design thinkers are invited to this interactive, modified pechakucha style presentation that will describe collaborative online course design and student assessment research findings, provide helpful tips/strategies for success, and involve collaborative participant discussion of implementation ideas. Attendees should come prepared to actively discuss and create implementation plans for possible collaborative online course offerings at their respective institutions. Presenters will provide attendees with a syllabus, example schedule, and topic list during the presentation along with having materials posted on the conference website.
Attendees will hear personal experiences from the design and implementation of the Current Topics in Professional Pharmacy online elective course, including presentation of research findings evaluating course impact on students. This team taught online elective is a 4-week, 1-credit hour summer online seminar series elective that was created to improve student pharmacists’ interactions with current topics in pharmacy and encourage ongoing interest in pharmacy current events. The course design included weekly modules focused on current topics affecting the profession of pharmacy, along with a longitudinal final project in which students created their own current topic module. Each module consisted of assigned reference materials and required meaningful student online discussion. This presentation will provide attendees with a collaborative online course delivery model that can be used to help develop and deliver similar online courses at their respective institutions.
How audience members will be involved:
Audience members will be engaged during presentations through audience polling (i.e. kahoot, etc.) and active presenter engagement. In addition audience members will participate in small and large group discussion and Q&A after the presentations
