Collaboration in Online Learning: Tips and Strategies for Engaging Learners

Abstract:

Collaboration in Online Learning: Tips and Strategies to Engage Online Learners

Extended Abstract:

Collaboration is an essential component of 21st century learning frameworks regardless of instructional approach and is cited in the research literature as an essential strategy to improve learning outcomes and to help prepare students for the complex world we are currently experiencing.   There is evidence that learners immersed in well-designed collaborative tasks are likely to develop higher order thinking, better articulate their learning, and contemplate ideas from multiple viewpoints.  In this presentation, I’ll showcase how I incorporate group work and collaboration in online graduate courses to engage learners and to improve the overall learning experience. Student feedback and personal statements will be presented.
