This interactive session will explore the challenges associated with campus adoption of emerging academic technologies and consider effective methods of advancing a culture of change and innovation though inquiry, discourse and experimentation.
The 2016 Higher Ed Horizon Report lists "Advancing Cultures of Change and Innovation" as one of the trends driving educational technology adoption for the next four to five years, stating that institutions of higher education "must be structured in ways that allow for flexibility and spur creativity and entrpreneural thinking" (Johnson, et. al. 2016).
This Innovation Lab session will review some of the cultural barriers that typically exist within institutions of higher education that may inhibit or prevent the adoption of proven and effective advances in educational technology. We will consider what it means to build a culture of inquiry and experimentation with case studies of campus initiatives that have impacted student success in online learning.
Participants will have an opportunity to experiment in small groups using the Applied Inquiry Framework to identify emerging trends and gain insight into how to effect change and adoption within their own campus communities (Chapot et. al 2013).
