Abstract:

Creativity requires an ability to take risks, and an expectation and readiness to fail. Web tools provide a moderated environment for students to practice being more creative in activities and communication. Connecting to learners means using the tools of their world. Our learners now are immersed in social media and other web  tools day in and day out. Therefore, web tools should be considered in curriculum and instruction.

Extended Abstract:

Creativity requires an ability to take risks, and an expectation and readiness to fail. Activities that involve web tools provide a moderated environment for students to practice being more creative in activities and communication. Connecting to learners means using the tools of their world. Our learners now are immersed in social media tools day in and day out. Therefore, web tools should be considered in curriculum and instruction. Research shows that students are more motivated and engaged in the learning process when technology is integrated into instruction.  This presentation will highlight free web tools available to use in your classroom and will provide ideas on how to use them.

Participants who attend this session will gain an increased knowledge in available web tools, learn about the limitations of various web tools, and lastly, understand the advantages and disadvantages of using web tools in the classroom. Online access to the presentation as well as informational handouts will be available to participants. Time will be available at the end of the session for participant questions.
