Abstract:

Digital courseware is a key component of course delivery for many postsecondary institutions, but not all products and implementations are created equal. This session will explore the Courseware in Context Framework and the Digital Courseware Instructional Practice Scorecard, including how research has shaped the development of tools to support evaluation of courseware implementations.

Extended Abstract:

Additional Information: This session will focus on the recently-launched Courseware in Context Framework and OLC Courseware Scorecard as mechanisms to support adoption and effective use of high quality courseware products. Rahim Rajan, Senior Program Officer of Postsecondary Success for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will frame the conversation by giving an overview of the challenge for institutions to effectively and efficiently discern quality in courseware, and how this challenge led to the development of the Courseware in Context Framework, a resource that helps institutions evaluate courseware products and implementations as inputs to quality. Panelists will discuss how research shaped the development of the Courseware in Context Framework and OLC Courseware Scorecard and how these tools can be used by the postsecondary community. They will also highlight how these resources are distinct from other other quality rubrics that currently exist in the market, and how these tools can be used in conjunction with one another. Session attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the minds behind the development of these resources, and will learn how to navigate these resources to meet the needs of their institutions.
