Improving Adjunct Clinical Teaching Effectiveness Through the Use of Learning Communities
Abstract:
Clinical nursing adjuncts are often full-time advance practice nurses and then elect to teach one group of nursing students one day per week. As a result, they have scarce opportunities for professional development in clinical teaching. In response, an on-line learning community was developed to provide initial and continuing educational opportunities. After completion, the participants felt more confident in their role and learned useful instructional techniques.
Learning Goals:
1. Identify priority learning opportunities derived from needs assessment
2. Develop appropriate on-line learning modules
3. Develop practical evaluation methods
4. Apply lessons learned to own project
Description:
The session will include a step-by-step account of the development of the on-line asynchronous learning community for nursing clinical adjuncts. From the initial needs assessment, to the development of the modules and the evaluation method, I will discuss the lessons learned and the opportunities for improvement.
I will walk the audience through each of the modules "live" and share participants feedback from both the discussion boards and the evaluation methods. I will answer questions and provide my contact information for consult
