Abstract:

Encouraging students to do more high quality work in a large lecture course without assigning marks is possible with the use of competition. In the last two years, students either participated in a game in which points were assigned for extra work completed in the course or in a year in which a game was not implemented. The quality of student worked increased when points were awarded, despite these points not affecting the students grade.
