Extended Abstract:

Online program development can be fraught with competing perspectives from different stakeholders.

To conduct effective program development, it is time to “drop the hype, bust the myths” and move to a pragmatic approach.  In this timely and practical session, you will learn how a small team in an independent medical school pulled off the creation of a full online program for senior health care professionals within 11 months addressing a lot of the hype and myths about online program development along the way.

This session will highlight the story and the lessons learned from the launch of an executive leadership program created by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Unlike other programs that focus primarily on theory, this 21-month online degree program is offered at the frontlines of health care delivery innovation. The program is designed to help highly motivated health care professionals attain expanded leadership roles. Our faculty use a combination of seminars, online classes, and applied projects so that the learned material can be applied by the participants to their work environments.

In this session, we will provide actionable information around the following learning objectives:

-identifying the major hurdles in securing regulatory approvals,

-maintaining distinctive program features throughout the program development and launch processes,

-what fundamental IT/ID tools worked best, and

-how to structure the learning environment for senior working professionals.
