Extended Abstract:

A core challenge of most instructors new to online teaching involves the presentation of content that is relevant to the students, the objectives of the course and that fits the technology and the online environment. Part of the challenge is due to the lack of a clear vision of the content, and the lack of knowledge and experience in the online environment and with the use of different technologies.

Nowadays, more and more instructors realize the importance of crafting their content to the online environment, making better use of technology to help students be successful in connecting to the content in class and with the real world. This task is not always easy, for instructors with little or no experience in the online environment.

At the Digital Learning team from University of South Florida instructional designers and project managers are committed to student success by collaborating with faculty in the development of quality online courses, by providing instructional and technology support.

This presentation will focus on the collaborative effort between the instructor, instructional designers, and project managers emphasizing each one’s roles in the process, while using instructional approaches, and strategies to support instructors to get from the initial proposed idea to the final product, helping them transform their content into engaging learning creations.

This session will present the step by step procedures, guidelines and strategies used to make the transformation of content possible, drawn by a real case example. Instructional designers, project managers and other attendees will learn how to guide faculty with limited online course development experience, in the creation or transformation of creative and engaging content for educational products for their online course.
