Extended Abstract:

The ADDIE model for design has long been regarded as the go to process for instructional designers, yet the model has always been broken. The evaluation stage is rarely funded or supported in most Universities and most post course surveys don’t offer the insights needed to influence course designs or revisions. Adivsors gain valuable feedback from students which can be beneficial not only in course revision but also in the creation of future courses within the same program. When instructional designers and advisors collaborate, the instructional designer gains valuable evaluation data, while the advisor gains insights into course design which helps support the learners. Linking advising and instructional design is one of the best ways to fill the evaluation void in ADDIE and create a more complete learner experience. Making this type of connection improves course evaluations, course revisions, student support, and overall learner happiness.
