Abstract:

This interactive session will engage participants in exploring initial results of a multi-institutional study on enrollment motivators and the college choice process for competency-based education learners.

Extended Abstract:

Popular culture, through the silver screen, glossy magazines and TV shows, have portrayed the college choice process as the 18-year-old checking the mailbox each day after school awaiting the ‘fat envelope’ indicating acceptance to their desired college.  It leaves out of the frame what college choice looks like for the majority – adult learners who often make the decision on what institution to attend concurrently with the decision to enroll in higher education. (Bers & Smith, 1987; NCES, 2015; NPEC, 2007) Join this interactive session to engage with initial results of a multi-institutional study on enrollment motivators and the college choice process for competency-based education learners.
