Implementation of a “Developmental Mentorship” program in an online graduate nursing program promotes pre-professional development by helping the student identify strengths, as well as areas for improvement, and prepare for their future role through one-on-one mentorship with faculty. This session will discuss the design and implementation process and expected outcomes.
Research has long shown that mentoring opportunities for graduate students promote the best professional outcomes after graduation. By providing students with opportunities for mentorship before graduation, and role-modeling professional behaviors, we can promote the best outcomes for our students’ future professional roles.
This “Lightning Session” presentation will give an overview of a “Developmental Mentorship” program designed and implemented in an online Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program. Topics will include self-reflection tools, meeting platforms, areas of focus, and the development of a professional portfolio.
Session attendees will participate in discussions regarding tools utilized for self-reflection and identification of students’ needs, meeting platforms, and other recommendations for a successful mentorship. Informational handouts will be provided.
