Abstract:

What if a magical place existed where you could be a part of a Community of Practice for instructional design? A place that supplied answers to your online learning faculty development initiatives and supported your publication agenda? Welcome to the Teaching Online Preparation Toolkit where you can converse and contribute!

Extended Abstract:

A magical land you say? That’s right! We are living our best design life at the Teaching Online Preparation Toolkit (TOPkit) site. This is a one-stop shop for resources for all those who are responsible for faculty development, including those who develop relationships with faculty to ensure quality online or hybrid courses. From Designers to Faculty to Technologists to Educational leaders, TOPkit.org is the place to deep dive with the community at large. Although TOPkit is Florida funded, it has an international reach and contributions. TOPkit is designed to provide solutions to the educational design community and this presentation is your invitation to join the community! Welcome.

The site, TOPkit.org, is organized by a three-step process for planning, developing, and evaluating your program, along with supporting resources. The processes are describe in more detail below.

  • Plan - Review planning guidance for training and development professionals to assess their institutional faculty development program portfolio, and shares implementation models and steps from other institutions.
  • Develop – Select from existing implementation resources for faculty development to move your efforts forward in program creation and delivery.
  • Evaluate - Apply resources and tips to assess program quality, along with identifying potential data sources available on your campus.

This sessions aims at highlighting the resources currently online, challenging you to locate and repurpose the materials applicable to you, and encouraging your contributions to the community by sharing your toolbox and expertise. The TOPkit site promotes applying Creatice Commons and linking to your authoritative materials/sources. This promotion and outreach creates an opportunity for collaboration and the sharing of current practices in our field.

In our session we encourage you to share, revise, review, and ask questions. Be a part of an outreach that knows no bounds. It will be magical!
