Abstract:

Do you feel overwhelmed with the amount of courses that you need to get designed each semester?  Come and find out about our journey to find a solution that works!!  For the past 4 years we have been working on developing this hybrid model and now have a version that is extremely successful!  The best part is that faculty love this process too!

Extended Abstract:

Arizona Online is relatively new to fully online programs.  While that provides opportunities for innovation it also provided a challenge since so many programs wanted to go online at the same time.  This created a need for a system to get more courses created without losing any quality, and this is how the course creator cohort was born.  It provides an opportunity to give all faculty consistent course related information and opportunities to interact with each other as well as an instructional designer.

One of the things heard repeatedly from faculty is that they want to hear about what other faculty are doing. In the cohort, faculty from across disciplines can move from isolation to collaboration as they connect, work together, and provide feedback to their peers. The cohort runs for 8 weeks and faculty update their course as they go. Topics include:

Week 1: Looking Backwards and Forwards

Week 2: Working on the Plan

Week 3: Interaction

Week 4: Accessibility

Week 5: Makeup Week - Built in week off to account for things like midterms

Week 6: Contact Hours

Week 7: Technology

Week 8: Peer Review and Final Design

Join us to learn and discuss how we designed and facilitated the cohort, our successes, failures, and next steps.
