Abstract:

When the world was faced with the global COVID-19 pandemic institutions quickly closed their doors. This included Eindhoven Technical University, who were transferring their final exams over to the digital sphere and sought a way to administer remote assessments and protect the integrity of these exams.

Extended Abstract:

When the world was first faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, everything, including universities, suddenly closed. Everyone was overwhelmed with the feeling of uncertainty, especially with the exam period right around the corner. Because students could not physically attend their exams, institutions looked for alternative modes of testing to allow their students to continue their education and take their exams, safely, off-campus. The only other alternatives were to cancel exams, which would set students back a semester, or administer open-ended question exams, which would likely result in a high number of students acting dishonestly.

Eindhoven Technical University in the Netherlands looked toa remote proctoring solution that allowed students to safely take their exams from home and simultaneously proactively protect the integrity of the exam. . However, this was no easy feat as they needed to implement a remote proctoring solution in just two weeks. Eindhoven quickly adopted Proctorio, seamlessly integrating into the university’s multiple learning management systems in just over a week and allowing the university to administer their exams within 2 weeks. The outcome of this quick shift to remote learning also offered several benefits including an introduction to a more sustainable, privacy-focused, and scalable way of conducting assessments.

This session will address why Eindhoven Technical University chose Proctorio over its competitors, how Proctorio was able to quickly implement remote proctoring, and the benefits the University has seen from the partnership. Attendees of this session will have a deeper understanding of the benefits and the ease of implementing a digital remote proctoring service into a higher education institution.
