Join our interactive flight! We’ll share elements that have shaped our style guide for online and blended courses. During flight, we'll collaborate and create a dynamic style guide addressing best practices of accessibility, usability, web design, and copyright. Upon descent, you’ll have a style guide to take with you.
Creating quality online and blended courses consists of many elements. In addition to pedagogical and technological considerations, online instructors and instructional designers must also take into account accessibility, usability, web design, and copyright.
At our university campus, which is dedicated to distance learning, a style guide has been established for over 600 online courses in order to maintain consistency and ensure the best practices of accessibility, usability, web design, and copyright adherence.
In this interactive session, we will share our style guide, which is influenced by Quality Matters, WCAG, and other best practices. In our session, you will identify best design practices by collaboratively creating a style guide (using an interactive web 2.0 tool) for you to take away and utilize for your online and blended courses. Be sure to bring your mobile device or laptop to participate and contribute! We’ll cover topics such as formatting and styles for text, videos, and images; content organization; Quality Matters and accessibility standards; best practices for general activity instructions; and tips for copyright and trade mark compliance. Our session is for anyone creating online or blended courses in K-12 or higher ed environments.
