Extended Abstract:

Learn to exchange valuable formative feedback through peer observation of online courses. Through formative feedback you and your peers can discuss online teaching from a new perspective. Reflecting on collegial feedback on your teaching can validate your teaching experience and inspire you to engage in specific professional development to further push the boundaries of your teaching practice and your students' learning.

In this session, you will explore the benefits and challenges of peer observation in an online course. You will engage in small group activities using a scenario about a fictional instructor in order to consider the steps necessary for a successful peer observation process and to determine a substantive focus for the observation in the scenario.

An observation guide, Guidelines for Formative Peer Observation of Online Courses, will be provided to take back to your campus to facilitate your own peer observations! Feel free to share the link to the guide with faculty and colleagues.
