Extended Abstract:

This session will briefly introduce the how and why of a successful blended/hybrid faculty professional development program for the redesign of existing online or traditional courses into a hybrid modality. We share key components of the program including the effective use of pre-class assignments for each of the five modules in the program, the process for timely and coordinated feedback loops using faculty fellows, a comprehensive and purposeful faculty workbook, and a scalable structure designed to meet demand and ensure consistency across multiple cohorts of participating faculty.

Faculty who have successfully completed this professional development program and implemented the thoughtful course design outlined within have maintained or improved student success in their hybrid courses with a 50% reduction of in-class time compared to their traditional courses. In this session, you’ll learn the fundamentals of how one institution is equipping their faculty for teaching in the hybrid modality.
