Abstract:

Podcasts have boomed in the past several years, providing postsecondary professionals with innumerable opportunities to learn, connect, and distinguish themselves. Learn how you can maximize your learning and development through intentional podcast listening strategies and take your audio engagement to the next level!

Extended Abstract:

Podcasts are booming medium, with a diversity of topics, people, and formats. They provide agency for creators and satisfy the curiosity of audiences with every episode. As higher ed professionals, we need to be current on events, issues, and trends related to our campus stakeholders. Podcasts provide an accessible avenue to keep informed, share resources, and connect with other professionals. Increasingly, there are a number of podcasts being created, hosted, and produced by our college/university colleagues.

Regardless of whether it is a higher ed focused podcast or something more general, there is a limitless amount of knowledge sharing and conversations relevant to the work we do in online learning.  Between the content of the episode itself, resources mentioned and included in the show notes, as well as connecting with hosts and guests, there is so much that can be gained from each episode of every single show someone listens to.

This session will aim to highlight specific podcast resources to help get folks started, either as a listener or producer of their own podcast. We hope to have conversations for suggestions for online learning podcast shows to start listening to, and additional ways to bring these episodes into their staff/faculty development programs. Attendees will pair up to introduce themselves to each other and share their goals for the session and what they’re listening to currently. This will allow for organic connections and learning as the audience embodies the goal of the session of helping professionals understand dynamic ways to learn and grow from others. There will also be ample time for questions to engage the audience and make sure everyone’s voices are heard.
