Extended Abstract:

The journey begins! What will you uncover about your own online teaching?

Learn to make the most of your valuable self-development time and improve your online teaching practice.

You've followed a good course design rubric to plan and develop your online course, so you know you're off to a great start! But... how can you know that you are engaged in teaching behaviors that facilitate student learning? Learn to engage in self-assessment through reflection on specific online teaching practices.

In this session, you will explore effective online teaching practices culled from the literature on effective teaching and the Community of Inquiry framework for online teaching and learning. You will engage in small group activities to explore these best practices in online teaching -- not best practices in course design, because you've already done that!

During the small group activities, you will explore the teaching of a fictional instructor, focusing in on effective online teaching practices and noting relevant teaching behaviors, then you will collaborate to draft a focused reflection plan for the instructor.

A reflection guide, Reflective Online Teaching: Self-Assessment of Online Teaching through Reflection on Effective Online Teaching Practices, will be provided to take back to your campus to facilitate your own journey of self-assessment and improvement! Feel free to share the guide with faculty and colleagues.
