Abstract: 

This session will outline steps and actions to offer effective professional development options to online faculty. Areas of focus include understanding faculty needs, delivery of best practices and utilization of basic resources.  Participants will walk away with solid examples of how to implement effective professional development at their respective institutions. 

Extended Abstract: 

Professional development is an area of great interest and concern for many institutions, specifically as it pertains to online faculty.  Who is responsible?  How do we know what to present to faculty?  Where are the resources coming from to support it?  These are questions we have all probably asked ourselves when discussing or planning for online professional development. 

This session will walk through one professionals approach to identifying meaningful professional development opportunities and best and effective practices for delivering them to faculty, utilizing basic resources.  Through the 45-minute session, the presenter will address effective ways to identify faculty needs for online professional development, discuss ways in which to effectively promote and deliver professional development and evaluate the effectiveness of the efforts.  Utilizing Kahoot, the presenter will engage the participants to better understand their current professional development efforts, while offering statistics and facts related to online faculty interests, needs and perceptions.  Participants will additionally walk away from the session with a checklist to assist them in the planning and facilitation of online training and professional development at their respective institutions.
