Extended Abstract:

An institution was looking to create and sustain a culture of quality assurance with partners in the academic schools. Without adding additional staff, they created a new faculty role to bridge the gap between online learning and the academic schools and open the lines of communication and collaboration to sustain quality assurance...and it has been a success since 2012. Online Learning Coordinators (OLCs) have been vital liaisons providing support between faculty and the instructional design and online learning unit. OLCs role includes validating course quality using Quality Matters, coordinating training and resources related to QM standards, and assisting in the development and review of online courses. They also work closely with faculty, school administrators and online learning staff to generate school online learning development plans as well as quality assurance review schedules. Without this role, the rapid scaling of online learning would be slowed dramatically and course quality would be negatively impacted.
