Higher education is changing daily, and many institutions face difficult decisions.  To survive, institutions must innovate, which requires innovative teams. The success of those teams relies on how leadership creates a culture of innovation, empowering teams to be creative and find new solutions to problems.

Extended Abstract:

Higher education is changing daily, and many institutions face difficult decisions.  Those decisions include overhauling offerings and personnel, forming partnerships with vendors or other institutions, and even making the decision to shut down.  Outside of higher education, modern organizations are dynamic, and to stay relevant and successful, they continually adjust their strategies.  The same cannot be said for higher education, or most of it at least because many institutions place a high value on tradition, which can sometimes bring innovation to a stop.  Institutions have to determine if their culture can carry them into their desired future, make difficult decisions with your team for the benefit of the institution, mold their team to fit innovation objectives, and continue to grow personally and professionally.  A full institution-wide overhaul is complicated, maybe even impossible, to pull-off at most colleges and universities.  However, that doesn't limit academic and operational departments from being able to innovate.  With a supportive and visionary leader, the proper culture can foster innovation and improvements that help prepare your institution for the future.
