Extended Abstract:

Join us for a brief and FUN session looking to help create and improve online instructor self-introductions!

We all know how important that first F2F class is-- those first moments with students sets the tone and atmosphere for the course, including and defining the interactivity dynamic and identifying expectations. In an online environment the instructor self-introduction video serves the same critical function but it is subject to a new set of limitations that can feel overwhelming to some online instructors.  DON”T PANIC!

This session begins by introducing primary concepts and reviewing examples (good and unfortunate) to create a class word-map representing our own session primary concepts. We then look at planning, including customizing/tailoring templates to meet individual needs, course goals, and methods to bring out the uniqueness of the instructor. Examples highlight simple methods, tools and approaches to get the most out of free tools and minimal technical accessories. LMS independent examples showcase accessibility and options for diverse access.

Plan to participate in break-out activities and discussions to:

  1. Identify common mistakes and how to avoid them.
  2. Use a template to plan and practice an effective introduction and get constructive feedback from your group.
  3. Brainstorm ways to use this approach for additional course content (discussions, module introductions, learner feedback, etc.)
