Competency-based learning allows offering one course for various learners.
Many fields and academic programs are moving to a competency-based learning model to more effectively prepare students at various academic levels of learning (Bachelor to Doctoral) for their selected fields. Competencies prepare students to build knowledge and skills for various fields in one interdisciplinary course. This is especially important in STEM programs which require interprofessional practice. As a result, academic programs may manage enrollment and improve course offerings and learning environments for students in competency-based learning. The objectives and goals of this presentation are: 1) present the necessary baseline course alignment, 2) scaffold and revising courses according to Millers Pyramid of Competency Assessment and 3) determining the need for formative or summative assessment. As an outcome of the session participants will gain a new perspective of adjusting courses for target learner audiences, managing enrollment in course and reducing costs of multiple course offerings.
