Abstract:

You may think that simulation creation requires hours of work, but today’s technology allows you to work quite rapidly. In this workshop, we will walk through the process of making your very own simulation. The maker component will be in MuzzyLane Author; however, the principles are applicable to any platform.

Extended Abstract:

You may think that simulation creation requires hours of work, but today’s technology allows you to work quite rapidly and easily. In this workshop, we will walk through the process of making your very own simulation. The maker component will be in MuzzyLane Author; however, the principles are applicable to other platforms such as Captivate or Storyline.

Learning Objectives

By the completion of this workshop, you should be able to:

  1.      Recognize the time commitment for creating a simulation;
  2.      Identify a skill that you would like learners to improve upon;
  3.      Set pedagogical goals that are appropriate for a simulated activity and
  4.      Apply simulation environment preferences, evaluation criteria and feedback mechanisms.

Workshop Format

After hearing background on the facilitators’ experience with making a simulation i.e. the why behind creating the simulation and research data on learning outcomes pre- and post-simulation, participants will dive into the thought process behind making a simulation and actually use the MuzzyLane Author platform. Participants will be given a set of challenges to work on in MuzzyLane while facilitators stand by to assist.

A template for simulation development, an example storyboard and actual simulations to try out and/or take back to your institution will be provided.

In order to get the most out of workshop, please bring a device such as laptop or tablet. You could think of a skill prior to the workshop that you would like learners to improve upon, but this is not required.
