Special Session:
Community College/TAACCCT
Abstract:

At your institution, do all administrators of faculty understand online instruction? This presentation will demonstrate how our college has created a professional development workshop to help administrators better gauge the success and effectiveness of online courses.

Extended Abstract:

Do the academic administrators at your college understand what a quality online class look like? Do they understand the pedagogy of online teaching and the student-centered approach when evaluating their faculty teaching online? Does your required teaching evaluation form address these same issues? This presentation will demonstrate how our college has created a professional development workshop to help administrators better gauge the success and effectiveness of online courses. A small committee comprised of administrators and faculty created a training for all employees who supervise online faculty about how to use our required form and our college’s minimum standards and best practices to teach online in an effort to inform supervisors about how to effectively guide their faculty towards improved online course quality and teaching techniques.

At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to apply part or all of the framework to their own unique college culture and required forms/processes in an effort to improve online instruction through faculty evaluation. Come prepared with your own device to interact with the presenters.
