The Bass Instructional Fellows Program (Online Apprenticeship) provides fellows a personalized, authentic learning experience captured in an online e-portfolio using the PebblePad personal learning platform. Portfolios showcase fellows’ learning experiences and reflective teaching practice, and provide an evidence-based collection of authentic learning artifacts, video, digital media, and reflection.
PebblePad is Duke University’s e-Portfolio tool provided to students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty, and staff to create websites, blogs, and reflections to share privately or to publish for public audiences. In the online portfolio fellows collect artifacts (portfolios, collections, blogs, journals, or reflections), select the best work, reflect on their skills and competencies, and connect their learning and personal experiences both discipline-specific and interdisciplinary.
This interactive discovery session will showcase an e-Portfolio project and the design thinking that shaped this-portfolio. The e-Portfolio is a digital philosophy project focused on collecting and creating online learning resources to teach students the specific digital archive research and digital literacy skills they need to complement their undergraduate philosophy course.
Outcomes
The purpose of this session is to describe the program model and the digital pedagogies that shape the learning experience; to introduce the PebblePad tool and its design templates, and to showcase innovative personalized e-Portfolio learning journals that capture the knowledge and competencies acquired throughout the fellowship. Participants will leave with design templates that can inform creating personalized learning portfolios in their own institution, whether using PebblePad or another instructional tool available to them.
Background
Program participants maintain an online portfolio throughout their program to encourage a reflective teaching practice. The portfolio documents their experiences participating in the first semester’s curricular and co-curricular activities as well as to track their efforts working on their projects toward the completion of their work.
