Extended Abstract:

Faculty development is a process by which faculty work systematically to improve their skills in the following areas: (1) educational skills, (2) leadership skills, (3) skills necessary to engage in scholarly activities, (4) personal development, and (5) skills in designing and implementing a professional development plan. Faculty development activities are successful when individuals' goals in these five areas are being met and when simultaneously the goals of the organization are being met. When it comes to the delivery of services, change is everywhere. And depending on who is asking, success may be measured in many different ways. Professional development departments are expected to provide training and guidance related to pedagogy, andragogy, and the mission and vision of the institution to hundreds of employees, usually with limited staff. Professional Development can support change initiatives through the design of courses on change management for leaders, faculty and front-line staff. Faculty development creates income and reduces costs. Professionally trained faculty are able to use their time more effectively and are more apt to adjust to new technologies and anagogical strategies. Come discuss the role of professional development during this time of rapid, continuous change.
