You are invited to participate in a highly interactive, practical, and hands-on workshop to learn how to use various instructional technologies for assessment in online and blended learning that will enhance your students’ educational experiences and your ability to understand what your students know and can do.
How many conference sessions and workshops have you attended where you the presenters are great and you are inspired to do something different with your teaching, but really, it is just too big of an idea to implement right away or you didn’t quite grasp how it would work for you and so you end up doing nothing? Wouldn’t it be great if you could attend a session where you actually get your hands dirty, have a facilitated exploration, and leave with at least one technique or solution that you can apply to your classroom the next day?
You are invited to participate in a highly interactive, practical, and hands-on workshop to learn how to use various instructional technologies for assessment in online and blended learning that will enhance your students’ educational experiences and your ability to understand what your students know and can do. The session will follow this format:
- Introduction: The session will start with a walk-through of the purpose and plan of the session as well as demonstrations of the technologies in the session. You will be provided with a “to do list” and potential ways to use the technology in your teaching.
- Ready, Set, Type: The majority of the session will be a “DIY” tour (with support), in which you use the workshop laptops (pre-configured for your use) to actually explore the instructional technologies for assessment.
- Debrief: We will wrap up with a discussion to share lessons learned from experiences with the assessment technologies, reflect on uses that might not yet have been introduced, and perhaps suggest other assessment technologies that might be useful.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will engage in hands-on exploration of technologies for measuring learning and supporting academic integrity.
- Participants will use their exploration to compare and contrast tools for assessment based on their specific teaching needs.
- Participants will select at least one assessment tool to implement after the session is complete.
- Participants will have access to resources to learn more following the session.
This workshop will be presented using laptops provided by the presenter in collaboration with Hewlett-Packard. All laptop stations will have assessment technologies pre-configured. Participants will have hands-on exploration of assessment tools, as well as take away a resource with tool information and links.

I am looking forward to meeting you at the Online and Blended Technologies to Support Assessment workshop in Orlando on Wednesday, November 14th. In this hands-on session, you will have the opportunity to hear about, but more importantly, to try out, a variety of technology tools that will help you teach with blended and online assessments. You should plan to bring your fully charged laptop to the session. If you do not have a laptop available, we will have a limited number of laptops provided by HP and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for you to use during the session. As a part of the workshop, you will also have access to a free Canvas course site (with on-going access after the session) to quickly link you to the materials and tools.
