Full and part-time faculty from art, psychology, and sociology will debunk the fallacies behind these myths about OER by sharing their experiences, approaches, and methods in developing and teaching courses for the California Community College Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) degree initiative.

1. OER will jeopardize articulation agreements
Mythbust: We will discuss the relevance of Course Identification Numbering System (C-ID), Course Outline of Record, and Course Objectives in identifying and adopting OER
2. The are no OER materials in my program or courses
Mythbust: We will give you guidelines for identifying, searching, and remixing OER
3. OER materials are inferior to commercial publisher products
Mythbust: We will explore the commercial publishing model, OER model, and the role of peer reviews in identifying quality sources
4. OER materials do not have supplemental or ancillary materials
Mythbust: We will share our experiences adapting, remixing, and creating new OER
5. OER materials do not match the my teaching style and approach or cover the information it should
Mythbust: We will discuss open licensing and the advantages and opportunities OER provides for nurturing academic freedom
