Abstract:

One of the challenges for online learners is feeling like they are a part of the campus community.  LCCC is creating a network for students to communicate with faculty, staff, and other students so they can connect, both formally, and informally, to get the resources they need to be successful.

Extended Abstract:

At Lehigh Carbon Community College we recognize that not all learning happens inside the classroom.  Students can learn many valuable lessons through social interactions and participating in organized events.  We want to make sure those learning opportunities are available to every LCCC student regardless of how they are enrolled.

One of the challenges for online learners is feeling like they are a part of the campus community.  LCCC is creating a network for students to communicate with faculty, staff, and other students so they can connect, both formally, and informally, to get the resources they need to be successful.

We are borrowing elements from First Year Experience program, student success programs, student life, and others to create a network of connections and resources that will benefit online students by giving them direct access to LCCC resources and services, and face to face students by giving them another path to utilize these resources.

We are just launching this initiative and hope to have a robust platform in place to offer the students a chance to intereact with other students informally, attend virtual presentations, and events, access campus resources, and much more.
