Abstract:

Are students taking advantage of the video resources you create for them? How do you know? If they are not, what can be done to make those resources more accessible and user friendly? In this interactive session, the presenters will share the challenges they faced in trying to increase student views of video support resources, the solution they implemented that increased views significantly, and the unintended consequence of additional learner analytics.

Extended Abstract:

In this session, the presenters will share their journey through creating resources for struggling students, the challenges they faced in getting students to watch the video resources, and the unintended outcome of having created an additional set of learner analytics through the use of a YouTube channel. Student views of the videos on the channel increased by 85% in one year, and student learning data demonstrated an increase in success in the same time period. The channel is an easy, cost free option for creating and sharing resources, and provides an easy way to track student views by content area and assignment.
