Coaching plays a critical role in student success. For adult-serving institutions, however, delivering an effective coaching experience at scale can strain resources. In this workshop, participants will learn how coaching models have been successfully implemented at other institutions. Each participant will develop an initial implementation and resourcing plan covering staffing, communications tools, success metrics, and technology needs, drawing from case studies of coaching models at other schools.
Coaching can play a critical role in institutional student retention and success efforts. Given their distinct learning histories, personal and professional goals, time constraints, and personal obligations, adult learners require a different approach to coaching. For adult-serving institutions, however, delivering an individualized, high touch coaching experience at scale can strain resources. In this workshop, participants will learn how effective coaching models benefit adult learners and how they have been successfully implemented at other institutions. Participants will collaborate to outline an institutional coaching model that is purposeful, reciprocal, genuine, trusting, and empowering. In addition, participants will discuss how to align their coaching model with distinct student personas and specific academic program objectives. Each participant will then develop an initial implementation and resourcing plan covering staffing, communications tools, success metrics, and technology needs, drawing from case studies of coaching models at other schools.
Participants will work both individually and in groups to review their own institution’s coaching resources and challenges. They will complete a series of short written exercises to document their goals and inform the plans they produce. The session will include both small and full group discussions.
