Abstract:

Education is changing with the rise of real-time video.  WebRTC is an open standard for using the camera in your browser for video chat, and this standard has opened up many possibilities for education. We will explore the use cases and technology behind live video for all aspects of education.

Extended Abstract:

This session will include an introduction to the technology behind WebRTC live video in education and it's use cases. WebRTC is an open web development standard from Google that allows applications to control the camera and microphone of a user's browsers.  This allows you to build group video chat applications like Google hangouts for student office hours, to stream live video from the classroom to remote students, or even to combine live video with augmented reality.

Real-time video is changing all aspects of education, even for students learning on-campus.  We will apply our deep experience building interactive video applications to help you understand the use cases and technology for this innovative aspect of online learning. You will walk away with an understanding of the capabilities and limitations of WebRTC live video, and inspiration how to apply this technology in your own environment.
